On Wednesday, December 11, JFS staff and the community celebrated the graduation of its largest English as a Second Language (ESL) class to date! Fifteen students, from diverse backgrounds including Colombia, Israel, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe, successfully completed the 12-week ESL course, made possible through Dallas College and the AT&T Connected Learning Center.
The graduation event marked a heartwarming end to the semester, with students sharing how the ESL program changed their lives. For many, the course not only improved their language skills but also boosted their confidence to try new things. One graduate even secured a job at her child’s elementary school, thanks to her improved English and increased confidence in workplace communication.
This was the fourth semester of the ESL program, and its popularity continues to grow. Four of the graduates have been with the program since it started, demonstrating their dedication to learning and improving their skills.
The next ESL class is scheduled to run from January 13 to March 26, 2025. Those interested in joining can reach out to Jill Tokumoto at jtokumoto@jfsdallas.org for more information.
JFS is proud to offer programs like the ESL course that help people build confidence and achieve their career and financial goals. We’re proud of this graduating class and excited to see what they will do next!
