FOOD PANTRY

What to Expect

We are a “client-choice food pantry” which allows for individuals seeking food assistance to choose the products they bring home to their families. Clients may make an appointment once a month and come into the food pantry to pick the products that they like to eat. We always carry a core list of items based on nutritional guidelines from the North Texas Food Bank, like canned fruits, vegetables, and proteins, beans, grains, meat, and eggs, along with various donated items such as bread, frozen meals, and produce.

Our volunteer “shoppers” walk through the pantry with our clients and help explain what items they may place in their cart based on the size of their family and what we have in stock. This model creates a more dignified experience for the client and reduces food waste due to preference and dietary constraints. Our food pantry also allows for clients to meet with a Case Manager to help meet other needs available throughout the agency.

With our client-choice pantry reopening, we are returning to our zip code requirements. If you live outside of these zip codes, please go to NTFB.org to find a pantry near you. If you live in the zip codes we service, please create an account to schedule an appointment.

The Client-Choice Shopping Model will reopen beginning Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 9 am – 1:00 pm by appointment only. We are introducing a new scheduling tool for all clients. Appointments are required and enforced. Please create an account to schedule an appointment.  If you do not have reliable internet access, call 972-437-9950 to schedule.
Follow along for step-by-step instructions to create a new PantrySoft account.

Additional Resources

For food pantry clients who need additional resources, our Case Manager will be available to answer calls for emergency food assistance at 972-437-9950 x267. Please also check ntfb.org for open distribution sites.

Case Management

For those individuals who come to our Pantry, access to the food pantry Case Manager is provided. When an unmet need arises, we work in providing information and referrals as appropriate and also coordination of those needed services. “Wraparound Services” are provided to address basic needs essential to regaining self-sufficiency.

Continuum of Agency Services

Those who use our Food Pantry have access, if needed, to our individual and family counseling, employment counseling, family violence intervention, special needs services and services for the elderly services provided by Jewish Family Service.

Kosher Corner

As an organization founded on Jewish values, we believe it is our responsibility to be an open door to our community, and that includes the specific needs of our Jewish community. With the grand reopening of our Food Pantry, we are proud to announce the expansion of our Kosher Corner and the beginning of a new outreach initiative with the Jewish community to help our community overcome any barriers to accessing food and other JFS services.

As always, Kosher foods, including meats and dairy are available for those who observe Jewish dietary laws, through a generous private donation in the JFS Kosher Corner.  Confidential, private appointments can be scheduled. Please call Robin Raxlin-Gormley, Senior Director of Special Programs, at 972-437-9950 or email rraxlin@jfsdallas.org.
