Hello everyone! My name is Brenda Butnick and I’m a Financial Coach at Jewish Family Service in Dallas. I work one-on-one with clients to help them achieve financial self-sufficiency.
We discussed the first 4 types of Overspending Triggers in my last blog and today we will discuss an additional 4 types of Overspending Triggers.
Overspending in personal finance is rarely about a lack of funds, but rather driven by emotional, situational, and behavioral triggers. Recognizing these 12 common triggers is the first step toward building healthier financial habits:
Additional 4 Types of Overspending Triggers:
Convenience and One-Click Purchasing: Digital wallets, saved credit card information, and one-click buying removes the “friction” of paying, making it easier to spend without thinking.
Subscription Creep: Subscribing to multiple streaming services, apps, or subscription boxes that are not actively used leads to a steady drain on finances, often unnoticed.
Emotional Highs (Celebration): Celebrating achievements, promotions, or birthdays can lead to overspending to reward oneself or others.
Vacation Mentality: A “nothing matters” attitude while traveling or on vacation leads to excessive spending on dining, souvenirs, and activities, often going well over the planned budget.
We will discuss the last 4 Overspending Triggers in my next post on Friday, May 22nd.
That’s all for your Financial Fitness today!
Until next time – take care and stay financially fit!
