When my husband, Mark, and I moved to Dallas in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina, we thought it would be temporary. Instead, Dallas became our home.
Like so many families rebuilding after a crisis, we found ourselves navigating uncertainty, loss, and the overwhelming process of starting over in a new city. During that time, our family turned to Jewish Family Service of Dallas for support.
JFS provided more than services. We found comfort, compassion, and a sense of community during one of the most difficult transitions in our lives. I will always be grateful for the role JFS played in helping my family find stability and a sense of belonging in Dallas.
Over time, that gratitude grew into a desire to give back. My daughters and I began volunteering by packing and delivering holiday boxes, and over the last 15 years, JFS Dallas has become an incredibly meaningful part of my life.
I have had the privilege of serving on the Board, participating in nearly every committee, and helping lead initiatives that have expanded the ways we can serve our community. That has included helping open our three Community Health Centers and serving on the building committee for our beautiful new home.
What continues to inspire me most is the way JFS Dallas meets people where they are. Whether someone is facing food insecurity, mental health challenges, domestic violence, medical needs, financial hardship, or the challenges of aging, the professional and dedicated team responds with dignity, compassion, and care.
Today, we serve more than 18,000 individuals each year. With the opportunities made possible by our new building, we are looking toward an exciting future. During my term as Board Chair, we will continue exploring ways to expand services and reach even more individuals and families who can benefit from our support.
It is an honor to serve as Board Chair of an organization that has meant so much to my own family and to so many others throughout our community. I look forward to working alongside our incredible staff, volunteers, Board members and supporters as we build on JFS Dallas’ strong foundation and continue providing support at every turn.
