Children & Teens

Jewish Family Service of Dallas offers therapeutic services that address emotional, behavioral, and developmental issues for children and teens. This includes depression, anxiety, and mood disorders, difficulties adjusting to new or unexpected situations, conflicts in interpersonal relationships with parents, teachers, siblings, or peers, additional challenges faced by those with special needs, and/or the commonly shared challenges of growing up.

Our Services

  • Children’s Play Therapy

Available for children ages 3 to 12, play therapy helps young children express their feelings, process experiences, and build healthy coping skills through play—the language they know best. Guided by trained therapists, play provides a safe and supportive space for children to explore emotions, strengthen communication, and develop problem-solving skills.

  • Adolescent & Teen Counseling

Adolescence can be a time of major change, growth, and new challenges. Our licensed therapists help teens navigate issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, relationships, and identity in a safe, supportive environment. Through individual and family sessions, teens learn healthy ways to manage emotions, strengthen communication, repair relationships, and grow their self-worth and confidence.

Our adolescent therapists use a variety of approaches to engage the adolescent in treatment in a way that is developmentally appropriate, client-centered, and empowering for the teen. Through creative, hands-on, and interactive interventions—such as art therapy techniques, mindfulness and relaxation exercises, sand tray, and game-based activities—teens can express emotions, build coping skills, and improve mental well-being.

  • Parent Consultation and Family Therapy

For all children under 18, we involve parents or caregivers in the process while protecting the child’s confidentiality. This may include routine sessions with the parent or caregiver to discuss ways they can help their child and share progress and feedback from sessions. This varies, as we do individualize a treatment plan for each client.

Family therapy is a form of therapy that focuses on improving relationships and resolving conflicts within families. It involves family members working together with a clinician to identify and address issues that may be affecting their well-being

Through individual and family sessions, children learn healthy ways to manage emotions, strengthen communication, and build resilience for the future.

  • Sensory Gym

Designed for children with sensory processing challenges, our sensory gym offers a safe and engaging space where kids can explore movement, balance, and coordination in a fun, therapeutic environment. Guided by licensed therapists, activities in the sensory gym help children improve focus, self-regulation, and motor skills—building confidence and supporting success at home, in school, and in daily life.

  • Special Needs Resources

Our goal is to help children with special needs reach their highest potential socially, emotionally, behaviorally, and intellectually. Through a family-centered approach, we involve parents, caregivers, and community supporters every step of the way. Services include early childhood intervention, academic intervention for school-age students, play therapy, speech-language assessments and therapy, social skills groups, school-based mental health services, and comprehensive assessments. Together, we build the skills, confidence, and connections that help children thrive at home, in school, and in the community.
