Older Adults

Jewish Family Service of Dallas is here to help older adults remain independent in their own homes and connected to their community for as long as safely possible. Our licensed professionals and trained volunteers are here to provide an array of compassionate care tailored to each individual’s needs.

Our Services

  • Assessment and Care Management

Our professional staff assesses needs and capabilities, helping older adults find the right balance of care and independence—whether through JFS Dallas services or trusted community resources.

  • Individual Counseling and Therapy

Our licensed professionals provide patient-centered, trauma-informed counseling to support the unique emotional and mental health needs of older adults. Through one-on-one therapy, clients gain tools to manage life changes, stress, and other challenges. Psychiatric assessments and consultations are available when needed, and our Friendly Visitor Program offers additional social support to enhance emotional well-being.

  • Friendly Visitor Program

Our trained volunteers visit isolated or homebound older adults once or twice a month to provide companionship and social connection. Clients are carefully matched with volunteers who are interviewed, vetted, and trained to ensure a safe and meaningful experience.

  • Support Groups

We offer group support for spouses, adult children, and other family members caring for a loved one with chronic or acute conditions. Our support groups address a range of needs, including caregiving, grief, chronic pain, and cancer.

  • Holocaust Survivor Assistance

We provide specialized care for Holocaust Survivors, including case management, counseling, financial assistance, and help with restitution claims. Funding for this program is generously provided by: The Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies, Kavod SHEF, Jewish Federations of North America, The Sefardic Home for the Aged, The Claims Conference, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas.

  • Kosher Home-Delivered Meals

Our caring team delivers nutritious, kosher meals directly to older adults’ homes. Each delivery includes an entrée, vegetable, side dish, non-dairy milk, bread, and dessert. Volunteer drivers deliver meals every Monday and/or Thursday, providing a full week’s worth of meals each time. The KHDM program is available to adults aged 60+ who live in Dallas County within our delivery area and are unable to cook or shop for themselves due to physical or cognitive limitations.

  • Chaplaincy Program

Our Community Chaplain, Rabbi Howard Wolk, provides spiritual support for anyone seeking comfort, guidance, or a deeper sense of meaning during times of transition or crisis. Whether you’re coping with illness, grief, or end-of-life care, the Chaplain is available to add a spiritual component to the care you receive at JFS Dallas. This program is generously funded by the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas.

  • Indigent Burial

The Indigent Burial Program ensures that members of the Dallas-area Jewish community with little or no income can receive a dignified Jewish funeral. The term “indigent” refers to individuals with no or extremely low income.

This program is funded by Dallas Jewish Funerals, Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home (with special fee arrangements), Restland, and three local cemeteries: Temple Emanu-El, Congregation Shearith Israel, and Tiferet Israel. JFS Dallas coordinates a rotation between the cemeteries, and the Indigent Burial Fund is maintained and administered by the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas.

  • Memory Care and Dementia Support

We offer expanded services for individuals and families affected by memory loss, Alzheimer’s, and related dementias. This program is generously funded by AWARE.

  • Uniper Care Technology

Uniper is a telehealth and social engagement system that helps older adults stay connected, participate in virtual programs, and feel supported at home. Through our partnership with the Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies and the Jewish Federations of North America, JFS Dallas provides Uniper systems to seniors—especially those with mobility or cognitive challenges—so they can remain engaged and socially connected.

  • Primary Medical Care

JFS Dallas operates two primary care clinics that are accepting new patients, including older adults. Our clinics provide comprehensive, compassionate care, including health screenings, chronic disease management, and assistance with scheduling appointments, and accept most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid.
