On June 4, Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas joined organizations around the world in recognizing Holocaust Survivor Day, a global initiative that honors the strength, courage, and enduring legacy of Holocaust survivors.
At JFS, we have the privilege of caring for and supporting a number of survivors who call Dallas home. In recognition of this meaningful day, each survivor in our care received two special gifts: a succulent plant and a $36 gift card. While simple in form, these items carried deep symbolism and heartfelt appreciation.
The succulent served as aliving symbol of resilience. Like the survivors themselves, these plants endure harsh conditions and continue to grow quietly, steadily, and beautifully. The $36 gift card reflects double chai, a powerful number in Jewish tradition that represents life. This gift honored the second chance at life that many survivors embraced after the war.
Each gift included a message of tribute and remembrance, acknowledging not only the hardship endured, but also the immeasurable contributions survivors have made in rebuilding lives, families, and communities.
This initiative was made possible through the generous support of the Seed the Dream Foundation and KAVOD SHEF, in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas. We are deeply grateful for their partnership in helping us care for the Holocaust Survivors in our community.
At JFS, we remain committed to honoring survivors with dignity, support, and compassion, not only on this special day but throughout the year.
