Group Volunteer Opportunities

Number of Volunteers: Up to 75 people; can take place at JFS Dallas or an alternative location

    Age Restrictions: Age 12+

Availability: Flexible, takes approx. 2 hours

The Food Pantry Experience is an interactive volunteer program that combines education, service, and donation. Participants are assigned a hypothetical family facing real-life challenges, such as limited income or homelessness, and create a meal plan and budget based on that scenario. They then shop for groceries at a local store using their budget, gaining firsthand insight into the realities of food insecurity. At the of the exercise, groceries purchased are donated to the JFS Dallas Food Pantry.

  • PLAN Clubhouse Game Night

Number of Volunteers: Up to 10 People
    Age Restrictions: Age 15+

    Availability: Weekday evenings, date/time flexible

Volunteers will host a game night at the PLAN Clubhouse, a supportive community space for individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness. As hosts, volunteers can bring their own games or use those provided, teach new games to members, and join in the fun — building connection through shared play.

  • Host a Drive

Bring your group together by hosting a donation drive at your workplace, school, congregation, or within your community. We’ll work with you to choose the most needed items based on the time of year, such as food, toiletries, school supplies, diapers and wipes, gently used clothing, or holiday gifts. Many groups choose to pair their drive with a hands-on volunteer activity, like sorting donations in our JFS Dallas Food Pantry or assembling hygiene kits with collected supplies. To make it easy to spread the word, JFS Dallas can provide a marketing toolkit with flyers and graphics to help promote your drive.

  • Meals in a Bag

Support our JFS Dallas Food Pantry clients by creating ready-to-make meal kits using shelf-stable ingredients. Your group can collect or purchase the items needed for a complete dinner, such as pasta, sauce, canned vegetables, and protein, and assemble them into gallon-sized bags for easy distribution.

This project is a great way to combine service and teamwork while helping individuals and families access quick, nourishing meals. We will provide suggested recipes, packing tips, and printable labels to help guide your group.

  • Snack Bags

Help children in our community stay nourished and focused by assembling snack bags filled with a week’s worth of shelf-stable snacks. Your group can collect or purchase items like granola bars, fruit cups, crackers, applesauce, and juice boxes, then pack them into individual bags for easy distribution.

This is a fun and meaningful project that supports local kids facing food insecurity. We will provide a list of approved items, packing instructions, and printable tags to include with each bag.

  • Throw a Volunteer Party

Looking for a meaningful way to celebrate or bring people together? Host a volunteer party where your group can pack hygiene kits, meals in a bag, snack bags for kids, or even birthday cakes in a bag. It’s a fun, hands-on way to connect while supporting neighbors in need.

Perfect for birthdays, team-building, mitzvah projects, or community events. We will provide guidance, packing lists, and support to help make your event impactful and easy to organize.
