Hello everyone! My name is Brenda Butnick and I’m a Financial Coach at Jewish Family Service in Dallas. I work one-on-one with clients to help them achieve financial self-sufficiency.
We discussed How Much Should You Keep in an Emergency Fund in my last blog and today we will discuss When to Use Your Emergency Fund.
When Should You Use Your Emergency Fund?
Ask yourself these three questions:
• Is this expense unexpected?
• Is it necessary?
• Is it urgent?
If the answer to all three is yes, it’s likely an appropriate use of your emergency fund.
After using the money, make rebuilding your savings a priority so you’ll be prepared for the next unexpected event.
An emergency fund isn’t just a savings account—it’s financial protection. It helps you weather life’s unexpected challenges, reduces reliance on debt, and gives you greater confidence in your financial future.
Remember, you don’t need to save thousands of dollars overnight. Building an emergency fund is a journey, and every dollar you set aside strengthens your financial foundation.
Start today. Your future self will thank you when life’s unexpected moments become manageable instead of overwhelming.
We will discuss Why Financial Goals Matter in my next post on Friday, October 2nd.
That’s all for your Financial Fitness today!
Until next time – take care and stay financially fit!
