Credit Card Billing Errors – Financial Fitness Blog

Hello everyone! My name is Brenda Butnick, and I’m a Financial Coach at Jewish Family Service in Dallas. I work one-on-one with clients to help them achieve financial self-sufficiency.

We discussed the fourth step in Best Practices to Get Out of Debt in my last blog, and today we will discuss credit card billing errors. Credit card billing errors are mistakes that appear on your credit card statement. These errors can cost you money or affect your credit if they are not resolved quickly. Understanding the types of errors, why they happen, and how to fix them helps protect your finances.

Here are the first three common types of credit card billing errors:

Unauthorized Charges Purchases you didn’t make. These can result from merchant mistakes or fraud. They may include duplicate transactions from the same merchant.

Incorrect Amounts A transaction is listed for more than the actual purchase price. Tips may be added incorrectly. Charges appear for canceled or returned items.

Charges for Goods or Services Not Received Items were never delivered or were delivered late. Services were not provided. Subscriptions were canceled but still billed.

We will discuss the next three common credit card billing errors in my next post on Friday, January 30th.

That’s all for your Financial Fitness today!

Until next time—take care and stay financially fit!
