The Resale Shop inventory is provided from the gently-used donations from individuals, families and businesses in the greater Dallas area. Please take a few moments to review our list of acceptable and unacceptable items.

New and gently-used donations from individuals and businesses in our community are vital to the mission of The Resale Shop. Donations to and proceeds from The Resale Shop help fund the professional, wrap-around mental health and social services at Jewish Family Service.

Drop-Off Policy

There are multiple locations you can drop off your gently-used items at during the below-mentioned hours.

The Resale Shop

Monday-Saturday: 10 am – 5 pm

Due to space constraints, please call before you come to the store.

Jewish Family Service
5402 Arapaho, Dallas, TX 75248
Monday-Friday: 9 am – 5 pm

At JFS please go to the front of the office. Wear a mask and enter the vestibule at the front of the building. On your right, there are bins designated for clothing, household goods, etc. Please place your items in the appropriate bin. If needed, take a donation receipt from the tray across from the bins.

Due to space constraints at both locations, furniture is only accepted by calling ahead to schedule a pick-up from your home or office.

Pick-Up Policy

Because of the high-volume of donations received and our limited pick-up resources, please understand that we cannot schedule same-day pickups.

While we will always try our best to work with your schedule, pick up appointments should take place 7-14 days from initial contact.

Because of safety concerns, please ensure that all items to be picked up are on the ground floor.

We need donations of gently used items, including…
Clothing, shoes & linens
Jewelry
Housewares
Small electronics and game consoles in working condition
Collectibles & knickknacks
Furniture & furnishings (beds must be disassembled prior to pick up)
Books
New, unopened toys or games
and so much more

When The Resale Shop receives items that it cannot sell, such as broken, torn or damaged items or products that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, we are forced to dispose of those items for the safety of our customers. The fees for disposal of these items raise our expenses and reduce the revenue available for job-training and employment services.

Items we are not able to accept

Large appliances, including TVs (working flat screens only), copy machines, washing machines/dryers
Oversized desks or armoires
Building materials or plumbing supplies (includes carpet, shutters, doors, windows, toilets, lumber, concrete, bricks, stones)
Encyclopedias or magazines
Undergarments and hosiery (includes nightwear, underwear and bras, socks and swimsuits)
Highchairs and strollers
Upholstered couches and chairs that are faded, torn, soiled or otherwise damaged
Automobile parts (tires, wheels, batteries, seats, body parts and engines)
Paint and chemicals of any kind
Kerosene and gas heaters and appliances
Water-soaked, damaged or stained items
Swing sets/children’s swimming pools
Air conditioners
Weapons (including air soft or paint guns)
Food/perishable items
Mattresses or headboards without frames
Gas-powered equipment, including gas grills or lawn equipment

What does The Resale Shop do with items that don’t sell?

Where possible, items that are placed on the sales floor but do not sell are recycled and sold to third party vendors who will send these items to third world countries. This only pertains to clothing and shoes.

Why does The Resale Shop not accept some items?

All donations that The Resale Shop can sell in its store are greatly appreciated. However, when The Resale Shop receives items that cannot be used, staff must dispose of them, raising expenses and reducing the revenue available for us to serve clients through our programs.

Tips for Donors

NO HANGERS – Please leave items in trashbags or boxes. This will help us to ensure clothing isn’t damaged and avoid injuries.
Check your items before donating to make sure all are items you want to give to The Resale Shop.
Check pockets of clothing for jewelry, money and other valuable items that you might not want to donate.
Separate clothing and shoes from other household items.
Check to ensure that items you are donating are not soiled, stained or ripped.
Test electrical equipment and battery-operated items to make sure they work.
Include all pieces and parts to household appliances
