System Administrator I #S04164P – University of Texas at Dallas

Under general direction, responsible for all operational activities including, but not limited to, the installation, configuration, maintenance, and enhancements of Linux and Windows operating systems, layered software packages, VMWare, enterprise-level storage (SAN, etc.), and server hardware. Implements installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Monitors and tunes the systems to maintain software integrity and reliability and to achieve optimum performance levels. Requires knowledge of computer operations and familiarity with scripting and programming.

  • Responsible for implementation, management, and monitoring of VMWare, including ESXi, vCenter, Horizon View, and vRealize, as well as any related components. 50%
  • Responsible for implementation of server systems hosted on virtual and physical infrastructures. This includes Operating System installation, configuration, daily maintenance and tracking the performance of hosted servers. 10%
  • Diagnose problems and performance issues with servers, complex enterprise-level applications, and advanced data communications software and hardware 10%
  • Responsible for coordination of system resource (CPU, Memory, Network and Storage) needs with other System Administrators and DBAs. This includes evaluation of current resource performance and utilization, as well as projection of future resource needs. 10%
  • Maintain DNS, Firewall and server access on load balancer appliance. 5%
  • Remediation of security vulnerabilities as identified by software/hardware vendors and University/UTSystem security groups. 5%
  • ID management for UT System Shared, TexSIS servers and apportion access to UT System servers in accordance with UT System ISO policy 5%

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree and 2 years of experience or high school diploma and 4 years of experience.
