This position will provide leadership in cataloging and metadata strategies to support the discovery and access of these specialized resources. Will collaborate with Archivists and Curators to realize opportunities to engage in creative experimentation while serving the discovery needs of special collections users and stakeholders. Will demonstrate experience in advancing diversity, equity, accessibility, inclusion, and articulating a description and discovery philosophy in these areas. Reports to the Associate Director of Technical Services.
Provide descriptive metadata for resources using OCLC Connexion software to search and download appropriate records into ALMA ILS, and perform subsequent modifications to records, using AACR2, RDA, LCSH, and authority control according to national and local standards. Provide complex original cataloging for this specific collection, and upload records to OCLC national bibliographic database as required.
Participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of UTD McDermott Library procedures and practices to facilitate the stewardship of the Collection of print materials, such as physical control, maintenance, post-cataloging treatment, preservation, and security and storage of this Collection.
Collaborate closely with colleagues in the Special Collections Division to maintain best archival and conservation practices of these materials.
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution; excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
