Graphic Sign Technician #S04198P – University of Texas at Dallas

To provide journey level work in the design, fabrication, and installation of graphics and signage, including but not limited to interior and exterior signs that comprise the signage and directional system throughout the University. Uses computer assisted design hardware and software to design, layout, and fabricate campus directional, safety, and informational signs, in accordance with University, Americans with Disabilites (ADA), and/or Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards.

  • Responsible for building interior signage; includes individual room signage as well as building wayfinding. Produce, install, and repair signage. Fulfill and document work requests and assess applicable charges. Maintain documentation of signage standards.
  • Operates computer-directed sign cutting machines to produce final products. Inspects completed work for conformance with drawings, specifications, and compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Assist in system administration of UT Dallas SimpleK key database. Process key deliveries and returns, and other duties as assigned.
  • Meets with clients and visits job sites on job requirements, takes field measurements, and creates signs in response to university customer needs.
  • Responsible for maintaining and stocking the sign shop. Keep materials and traffic signs in stock to provide continuous availability. Maintains tools and equipment used in sign making.
  • Responsible for campus traffic and pedestrian signs. Assist in coordinating detours and alternate driving pedestrian routes due to campus construction. Install signage accordingly. Ensure MUTCD compliance.
  • Develops sign designs in conformance with project drawings, specifications, sketches, and published regulatory and architectural sign standards, dimensions, and symbology. Assign room numbers for new construction and renovations complying with UT Dallas room numbering standards.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent;
One year experience in wayfinding coordination and implementation;
One year experience and knowledge working with ADA and MUTCD code;
One year experience reading and reviewing complex blueprints and submittal documents.
Valid Texas drivers license and an acceptable driving record.
