Employment & Compensation Specialist II #S04661P – University of Texas at Dallas

The Employment and Compensation Specialist II is responsible for providing the exceptional talent acquisition and compensation services to University hiring managers and departmental leaders. This position partners with hiring managers to hire talent, while ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws, and University and UT system policies. Serves as a resource and partner to advise on first line and mid to upper-level compensation matters and strategies with campus colleagues. This individual will maintain excellent relations with hiring managers, applicants, and the UT Dallas community at-large. A wide degree of creativity and critical thinking, a solid understanding in the application of employment laws, short and long-term recruiting and compensation vision, and personal organization is required to be successful.
  • Comprehensively manage the hiring process and compensation practices for staff positions in designated schools and divisions using an applicant tracking system.
  • Evaluates compensation structure by documenting job responsibilities/requirements and conducting internal and external market reviews. Uses market data to assist hiring managers in determining competitive salaries during initial hiring, promotions and reclassifications.
  • Partners with hiring mangers on developing recruitment plans, assist with the interview and selection process, and manage the job offer process for staff positions, while ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws, and University and UT system policies.
  • Reviews resumes and applications to ensure minimal qualifications are met based on noted skills, experience and knowledge in relation to position requirements.
  • Identifies and targets active or passive candidates that could meet the organization’s current and future talent needs. Develops a candidate pipeline and maintains relationships through online or in-person networking. Encourages candidate interest in the position to be filled by promoting the organization as an employer of choice.
  • Manages relationships with regular advertising vendors and state workforce agency.
  • Stays informed of employment laws, trends and innovative recruiting techniques in order to be competitive in state-of-the-art recruiting practices.
  • Participates in the development of ongoing, creative and cost-effective sourcing/recruitment strategies.
  • Educates hiring managers about successful recruitment strategies and search options; train managers on use of the applicant tracking system.
  • Reviews and guides campus colleagues on first line and mid to upper-level salary/compensation matters relating to offers, reclassifications and promotions to ensure internal equity while remaining competitive with market pricing.


Bachelor’s Degree and 5-years general human resources experience or administrative experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
