Communications Specialist – North Central Texas Council of Governments

The Communications Specialist is responsible for producing various types of written, audio and video content that increases awareness, understanding and positive perception of Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas (WSNCT). This includes, writing and editing a variety of communications material; creating, curating, posting and analyzing social media content; managing and expanding the customer testimonial program; assisting with internal and external marketing and communications initiatives, events and projects; and collaborating with team members to plan digital content for the department’s various communications platforms.


  • Researches, writes, edits and produces content – written, audio, video and digital – to  drive awareness of the department and educate audiences about the department’s programs, services and success stories. Content includes articles, testimonials, press releases, flyers, email marketing campaigns, video scripts, pitch letters, website copy and other communications material. Meets regularly with department leaders and subject matter experts to uncover timely content and communication opportunities.
  • Creates and curates appropriate, engaging social media content to build relationships and trust with WSNCT’s online communities; ensures responses are timely, accurate and consistent with department values and brand voice; monitors social media accounts, conversations and relevant trending topics to gain insights and engage when necessary; develops and maintains a content calendar across all social media channels; delivers regular analytics and performance reports across all platforms.
  • Identifies customers, employers and partners whose stories and experiences with WSNCT’s services and programs would be ideal testimonials; manages process of outreach, agreement, scheduling, preparing interview questions, photo/video shoots and other logistics; interviews subjects and writes testimonial stories; works with outside vendor or internal team to edit video footage into finished piece; repurposes testimonials and quotes for use in annual reports, brochures, on website, social media and other communications materials.
  • Provides planning, writing and logistics support for program initiatives, special events and projects, such as annual awards; media events; conferences, workshops and retreats; hiring and career exploration events; speaking engagements and media interviews; department podcast and newsletter; and other promotional activities.
  • Collaborates with management, subject-matter experts, and digital and graphic designer to plan and produce digital content for use on the department’s website and social media platforms, in marketing campaigns, presentations, brochures, flyers, reports, posters, invitations, infographics, newsletters and other communications vehicles.
Required Skills
  • This role requires a high level of creativity, attention to detail, an excellent customer service mindset, exceptional project management skills, and sound emotional intelligence to drive success with diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills are a must.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, is highly desired.
Required Experience

Bachelors degree and 3-5 years related work experience.
